Emily & Jordy's Wedding — Sanggar Lestari

WE LOVE WEDDINGS!

Sanggar Lestari has had the honour of performing at various weddings over our years of dancing. Only last year, we performed at Lestari girl, Deena's Wedding Reception in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Emily and Jordy's wedding was a bit closer to home at the stunning Lakeside Reception.

For this performance, we wanted to honour the cultural heritage of Emily's family by performing the Sumatran 'Ngarak Penganten' Dance to open the festivities. This was quite fitting as the dance is traditionally performed for the 'penganten' (wedding couple) at weddings.

After the religious ceremony and some speeches, we had a quick change from Sumatera to Java, to perform one of our favourite Betawi Dances- Tari Lenggang Nyai.

We thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces from the Indonesian community as we festivities and shed a tear (or two) during the newlyweds first dance! We weren't the only performers at the reception - we were also entertained by a surprise Dance by the Bride and her girls to open the dance floor!
